Day by day
DAY 1
Welcome to The Alps
DAY 1
Welcome to The Alps
Welcome to Bormio! A charming mountain hamlet rich in history and tradition and our base for the next days. We’ll start to warm up and get comfortable on the e-bike riding on scenic bike paths and on smooth trails around the valleys before we celebrate the beginning of this cycling adventure with a great dinner of local delights.
• DISTANCE: 40 km (25 mi)
• ELEVATION: 1000 m (3100 ft)
TODAY’S TRIVIA
Braulio is an iconic alpine liqueur born in Bormio in 1875. A secret blend of herbs and roots, it still captures the wild spirit of these mountains.
DAY 2
Cancano Lakes
DAY 2
Cancano Lakes
Today’s ride takes you deep into one of the most pristine Alpine landscapes. From Bormio, we’ll pedal up to the enchanted Cancano Lakes and enjoy the panoramic loop around their crystal-clear waters. The ride back to Bormio is yours to choose: either a smooth paved road or an off-road descent for an extra thrill.
After the ride, wander through Bormio’s charming historic centre, enjoy an aperitivo and settle in for another delicious dinner of local specialties.
• DISTANCE: 50 km (30 mi)
• ELEVATION: 1200 m (3900 ft)
TODAY’S TRIVIA
The Cancano Lakes are actually artificial reservoirs built in the 1920s and 1950s to collect meltwater from the surrounding peaks and produce hydroelectric energy. This ingenious system still supplies renewable energy to much of the Valtellina and parts of northern Lombardy.
DAY 3
Stelvio and Roman Baths
DAY 3
Stelvio and Roman Baths
Today we meet the king of the Alps: the Stelvio Pass, the highest paved road in Italy, sitting proudly at 2,758 m (9,048 ft).
This legendary road, winding sinuously through the mountains, is an epic challenge for any cyclist but, with your powerful e-bike, it becomes a scenic, satisfying adventure. To enjoy it at its best and without traffic, we recommend an early start at sunrise, when the light is magical and the only sound is the whistle of marmots.
After reaching the top, you can tackle the descent back to Bormio or if you’d rather skip it, just hop in the van and relax while we take care of the rest.
Once back, swap your cycling shoes for flip-flops and unwind with a blissful afternoon at the elegant QC Terme Roman baths.
• DISTANCE: 45 km (27 mi)
• ELEVATION: 1500 m (4900 ft)
TODAY’S TRIVIA
The Stelvio Pass was built in 1825 by order of Emperor Francis II of Austria to connect Milan with Vienna. Nearly two centuries later, this incredible feat of engineering still challenges and inspires cyclists from all over the world.
DAY 4
Hiking Day or Val Viola Ride
DAY 4
Hiking Day or Val Viola Ride
Today we’ll take it easy and switch things up a bit. We can enjoy a beautiful panoramic ride through the Val Viola or, if you’d like to stretch different muscles, we’ll take you on a hike instead.
You can choose a short walk up Monte Scale for amazing views in just a few hours, or go for a longer trail up Monte Confinale for even bigger vistas over the peaks and valleys.
Either way, the rewards will be breathtaking and back in town, there’s only one way to end the day: pizza night and a cold beer. Cheers!
• HIKE DISTANCE: 6 km (4 mi)
• HIKE ELEVATION: 500 m (1500 ft)
TODAY’S TRIVIA
The Forni Glacier, in the heart of the Stelvio National Park, is Italy’s largest valley glacier and was once known as the “white giant” of the Alps. In recent decades, however, it has shrunk dramatically, losing about a third of its surface area and retreating by around 2 km.
DAY 5
The Wine Road
DAY 5
The Wine Road
Today we head down the valley to wrap up the tour in style. We’ll ride along the Via dei Terrazzamenti, a mix of dirt roads and cobbled streets winding through spectacular terraced vineyards.
Prestigious reds like Sfurzat, Sassella and Inferno are produced right here in the Valtellina wine region and they’ll be waiting for you at a private tasting in our favourite local winery. Cheers!
A final dinner in Sondrio, the province capital, and a night in a cosy vineyard agriturismo are the perfect ending to this unforgettable e-bike adventure.
• DISTANCE: 60 km (35 mi)
• ELEVATION: 800 m (2600 ft)
TODAY’S TRIVIA
The Breva is a warm breeze that blows up the Valtellina Valley from Lake Como in the afternoon. For centuries, this wind has helped keep the vineyards dry and healthy. A natural ally for Valtellina’s winemakers, who still work these steep terraced slopes entirely by hand.
