01 Welcome to Abruzzo
Time to meet your Vago Cycling guides and begin your adventure with the first glimpse of Abruzzo’s beauty: the “Golden Triangle”, a hilly area renowned for the premium extra virgin olive oil Aprutino Pescarese. In the quiet hills of Loreto Aprutino we will be hosted at Azienda Agricola Chiara Ciavolich for a private wine tasting, and a delightful farm to table dinner. Welcome to Abruzzo!
02 Abruzzo Wine Country
Slowly awaken in your opulent surroundings to another perfect day in Abruzzo! Enjoy a yummy breakfast in the quiet of the countryside and hop on the bike for a rolling ride through vineyards, olive grows and medieval villages. At the end of the ride, take your time to relax in the Jacuzzi Garden before we enjoy a guided visit to the Olive Oil Museum and the Ceramic Museum of Loreto Aprutino. To finish this fabolous day, a world-class dinner at our favourite local restaurant awaits; buon appetito!
03 The Little Tibet
Make sure your camera is fully charged as there will be no shortage of views on this spectacular day. We’re heading to Campo Imperatore: the remote plateau surrounded by mighty peaks and rightly known as “the Little Tibet”. In the shadow of the Corno Grande, the highest peak of the whole Apennines, we’ll reach the enchanting hamlet of Santo Stefano di Sessanio. Wander narrow alleys filled with the magical beauty of a world gone by and finish the day with a bountiful dinner of local delights as zuppa di lenticchie, sagne e ceci and arrosticini.
04 Pacentro Loop
Following a bountiful breakfast we will enjoy a guided visit to the Oratory of Bominaco, a frescos-covered building from the 13th century and known as the Sistine Chapel of Abruzzo. The day will continue with a short transfer to Rocca Lorenizo, our charming accomodation for the next two nights. Here we will enjoy a pool side lunch before a spectacular ride in the heart of the Majella National Park. In anticipation of another fantastic dinner, enjoy a Spritz in the shadow of the olive trees or take a walk through the hamlet of Pacentro, a medieval gem dominated by the Caldora Castle.
05 Hike Day
Today we’ll swap the cycling shoes for the hiking ones and take a walk in the remote wilderness of the Majella National Park. There is no better place to relax, breath the fresh mountain air and merge in the endless view. Back to the hotel, linger by the pool sipping a glass of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo before we enjoy a home cooking experience at the dinner table. Buon appetito!
06 The Trabocchi Coast
After beautiful days in the inland, we’ll finally reach the UNESCO-Heritage Trabocchi Coast, a stretch of sea dotted with a striking collection of trabocchi: unique fishing structures directly suspended above the water. Enjoy the breeze riding on the seaside bike path and cheer with a sunset drink on Punta Aderci beach before we wrap-up this great trip with a farewell dinner of seafood delights.
