Alps and Dolomites

Challenge your limits on roads that made the history of cycling.

From the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites to the mighty Stelvio Pass and the pristine shores of Lake Como, this region of Northern Italy is a treasure trove of unspoiled nature, rich history, and amazing rides.

HISTORY

Theatre of clashes
in World War One

Through the centuries a privileged position along important trade routes favored the development of Bormio and the Valtellina valley. Several rulers (among them the duchy of Milan, the Swiss Grisons, France and Austria) came to power and left visible marks on the local culture.
During WW1 the Stelvio Pass marked the border between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Italian Kingdom. Fierce battles were fought in extreme conditions and nowaday small war relics can still be found in the area.
The region is also known for the presence of natural hot springs whose first historical mention dates back to the Naturalis Historia by Pliny the Elder (23-79 AD).

CYCLING

The beating heart
of cycling

At 2,757 meters (9,045 feet) above sea level, Stelvio Pass is the highest paved road in Italy, where many pages of cycling history have been written since the 1953 Giro. Equally challenging and renowned are the mighty peaks of Passo Gavia, the steep ramps of Passo Mortirolo, and the classic climbs of the Dolomites, including Sella, Pordoi, Giau, and Fedaia. In addition to these iconic climbs, the region offers tranquil backroads, pristine valleys, and a picturesque 70-kilometer wine route winding through vineyards and charming hamlets. A new network of bike paths connects the mountains to beautiful Lake Como, making this destination a paradise for cycling enthusiasts.

EAT AND DRINK

Alpine delights
and prestigious wines

The region provides a delightful culinary experience that blends Alpine traditions with Italian flair. Local specialties such as Pizzoccheri, a hearty buckwheat pasta, Sciatt, crispy fried cheese fritters, and Canederli, flavorful bread dumplings served in broth, are perfect for refueling after long days on the saddle.
These robust mountain flavors are beautifully complemented by local wines like Gewürztraminer and Lagrein from the South Tyrol region, as well as Nebbiolo from Valtellina Valley, making for an unforgettable gastronomic journey.
